During your first general two-years of study as an LSA student, you typically meet with General Advisors in the LSA Academic Advising Center. LSA General Advisors can answer questions concerning LSA degree requirements such as area distribution, language, quantitative reasoning, and race and ethnicity.

If you are considering declaring a major or minor in the Environment, you should schedule an appointment with a Program in the Environment concentration advisor using the on-line appointment scheduling system.

You should meet with Angela Tapley for general advising, plan/minor declaration, course selection and progress toward degree inquiries. If you have Field Experience questions (particularly about internships and/or study abroad), you should schedule an appointment with Alicia Farmer.

E-mail advising questions should be sent to environment.program@umich.edu.  Students frequently mentioned the quality of PitE advising in their comments that led to our receiving the 2006-2007 LSA Departmental Excellence Award.

At an advising appointment the concentration advisor can discuss pre-requisite and concentration course requirements, as well as specific courses you may wish to take. You can also find information regarding field placements and internships in the Program office.

When you are ready to select specialization courses, the concentration advisor will talk with you about your interests and review the specialization approval process.  If necessary, she will refer you to an appropriate faculty member for further help in selecting your courses.
